Coming Summer 2023 to Snohomish, Washington :: A Flower Market offering locally grown flowers!
We are pleased to host SCFC at Fleurs Creative for their Summer Fresh Flower Market.
I’ve asked the president of SCFC, Tracy Yang, to share with us a bit more about the new flower farmer collective.
(Alicia) Can you tell us what is the Snoco. Flower Collective?
(Tracy) The SnoCo. Flower Collective is a group for flowers growers in Snohomish, Island, and Skagit Counties. The idea is that this will serve as a platform to allow growers in these regions to connect with each other, as well as floral professionals and residents in the North Sound region.
Can you share with us what inspired you to create the SnoCo. Flower
Collective?
There are a few reasons that inspired me to create SCFC:
1) We are very blessed here in Washington to have such a vibrant local flowers scene. I thought, why don’t we use this to our advantage? It doesn’t make sense for all of us to be working super hard to be growing the same exact things. It would make more sense if we all brought something different to the table. It’s kind of like a potluck. When you go to a potluck, you’re expected to contribute one dish, not all of the dishes. It’s easier to prepare one dish instead of having to prepare everything by yourself. The same concept applies here. For example, I don’t like growing sweet peas, but another flower farmer loves to grow sweet peas and they’re great at it. That’s awesome! That’s one less thing for me to worry about. I can, then, focus my resources on growing something that I do like to grow and grow more of that. When it comes time to go to market, because I focused my resources on growing flowers I’m good at growing, the chances of product being premium quality will be higher. In the end, it’s a win-win for both the farmer and the customer.
2) Burnout is very prevalent in farmers. I think it’s important that we’re supportive of each other. Being able to learn together and confide in other people who understand your struggles makes the journey more bearable and fun.
3) I want to make local flowers accessible to more people. Local flowers are a more sustainable option than imported flowers and their beauty is just unmatched. The farm-to-table concept is becoming more popular and more people are starting to understand it. Now, I think it’s time for the farm-to-vase concept to also catch on. To increase accessibility to local flowers, SCFC will be hosting a weekly flower market starting in late Summer.
Will the flower market be open to the public or only for florists?
The SCFC Flower Market will be open to both florists and the general public. We want both floral professionals and people in the community to be able to shop the market.
When will the flower market take place?
The flower market will take place on Thursdays starting July 27th through September 29th from 7am to 11am.
The flower market will take place at Fleurs Creative located at
105 Avenue A
Snohomish, WA 98290
